Judge, United States District Court for the
District of New Jersey
Judge Chesler was appointed to the District of New Jersey
federal bench in 2002. He is a graduate of Harpur College
(1968) and St. John’s University School of Law (1974). Following
law school, he was an Assistant District Attorney in Bronx County
(1974-1980), a Special Attorney on the Newark Organized Crime
Strike Force, U.S. Department of Justice (1980-1986), and an
Assistant U.S. Attorney in the District of New Jersey
(1986-1987). Judge Chesler served as a United States
Magistrate Judge in the District of New Jersey from 1987 until his
appointment to the District Court.
