The Law School's Visiting Jurist Series continues with:
A Conversation with the Honorable J. Paul
Oetken
United States District Judge
United States District Court, Southern District of New York
Judge Oetken was appointed to the Southern District bench in July
2011. He is a graduate of the University of Iowa (1988) and Yale
Law School (1991). He then was a law clerk to, in succession, Judge
Richard D. Cudahy (7th Cir.), Judge Louis F. Oberdorfer (D.D.C.)
and Justice Harry A. Blackmun (U.S. Supreme Court). After two years
in private practice with Jenner & Block in Washington, Mr.
Oetken became an Attorney-Adviser in the Office of Legal Counsel,
U.S. Department of Justice. In 1999, he joined the Office of White
House Counsel under President Clinton. From 2001–04, Mr. Oetken
practiced law at Debevoise & Plimpton in New York. He then
became head of litigation at Cablevision, where he was Senior Vice
President and Associate General Counsel until he was appointed to
the bench.
