Research Professor and Senior Fellow

RESEARCH PROFESSOR AND SENIOR FELLOW, The RONALD H. BROWN CENTER FOR CIVIL RIGHTS AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

ST. JOHN’S UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF LAW

St. John's University School of Law is seeking outstanding candidates to apply for the position of Research Professor and Senior Fellow of The Ronald H. Brown Center for Civil Rights and Economic Development. This is a two-year appointment, with a reduced teaching load, typically six credits each academic year. The RHB Research Professor and Senior Fellow position is not a tenure-track position. Instead, it is designed to prepare new law professors to produce high quality scholarship and acquire teaching skills that will enable them to obtain a tenure-track position at a top law school.

The RHB Research Professor and Senior Fellow (the “Research Professor/Senior Fellow”) is chosen based on an evaluation of the applicant's potential to obtain a tenure-track position with appropriate support and mentoring.  In addition to traditional teaching and scholarship, the Research Professor/Senior Fellow holds an appointment in The Ronald H. Brown Center for Civil Rights and Economic Development and will assist in all aspects of its nationally recognized pipeline, academic, and other programs, including its work with the Journal of Civil Rights and Economic Development, a law journal dedicated to issues of racial, social, and economic justice. In particular, the Research Professor/Senior Fellow will teach a course related to racial, social, and economic justice and will help supervise scholarly writing of the Journal students.

Applicants must have a Juris Doctor degree with an outstanding academic record, a strong commitment to issues of racial, social, and economic justice, and a commitment to teaching and scholarship.

To apply, please mail (or e-mail) a cover letter, curriculum vitae, writing sample, and the names of three references to Leonard M. Baynes, Professor of Law and Director of the Ronald H. Brown Center for Civil Rights and Economic Development, St. John’s University School of Law, 8000 Utopia Parkway, Queens, New York 11439 (Email to baynesl@stjohns.edu).  Applicants are strongly encouraged to apply by November 1, 2011

As an Equal Opportunity Employer, St. John’s encourages applications from women, people of color, and members of other groups underrepresented in the legal profession.
