Job Summary
The Director of Donor Research and Prospect Management is
responsible for providing leadership and the strategic planning for
the University’s fundraising donor/prospect research efforts with
particular emphasis on support for major gift development and
solicitation. The Director participates as an integral member of
the core internal planning committee for future campaigns and also
manages the overall Division’s prospect management system. This
position reports to the Executive Director of Advancement
Services.
Responsibilities
- Manage the collection of information to help support the
University’s fundraising operations and to proactively identify new
major gift prospects.
- Research, qualify, and provide strategic advice and analysis
regarding potential or identified prospects with the capacity and
inclination to support the University at leadership levels.
- Generate new and update current reports, prospect and donor
profiles, bios and other pertinent donor/prospect related
information.
- Maintain prospect management system and database for the
Advancement Office through the Advancement module for Sungard
Higher Education’s Banner system.
- Work in conjunction with the Director of Advancement Services
to generate event reports, financial profiles, donor profiles,
segmented prospect lists, various event invitation lists, etc.
- Provide guidance to front line fundraisers and other
Institutional Advancement professionals on cultivation and
solicitation strategies for individual, corporate and foundation
prospects.
- Evaluate, monitor and implement appropriate electronic tracking
and information alert systems for existing major donors and
leadership giving prospects.
- Responsible for providing training sessions regarding prospect
identification, reassignment, Web for Development Officers
(entering contact reports and contact information) and Moves
Manager for new and existing users.
- Establish and maintain policies and procedures for prioritizing
and effectively conducting prospect and donor research.
- Respond to and/or provide assistance with a broad spectrum of
high priority research and prospect identification projects from
Institutional Advancement and other University departments,
including the President’s Office and Office of Alumni
Relations.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- BA/BS required. Advanced degree preferred.
- 5-7 years of development, development research, information
management or other related experience in a capital campaign
environment.
- Excellent communications, written, verbal and analytical
skills.
- High level of proficiency in prospect research, prospect
management, and proactive prospecting methodologies, concepts and
strategies to cultivate and secure prospects.
- A superior knowledge of the Internet, relational databases, and
common computer applications is essential.
- Familiarity with various research and information management
tools used in performing donor and prospect research and
screening.
Salary
Salary commensurate with your qualifications, experience, and
contingent upon the departmental budget.
