Job Description
Reporting to the Executive Director of Student Wellness, the Director of the Counseling Center will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of professionals including psychologists, social workers, nurses, and consulting psychiatrists in three areas: Counseling Center, Health Services, and Wellness Education and Prevention Services. The successful candidate will provide leadership, vision, and strategic planning to enhance the necessary policies and practices to serve a vibrant and diverse population of 18,000 students. This position provides the overall vision and underlying framework for the development and delivery of mental health services. 

Responsibilities

  • Development and implementation of policies and procedures, and assessment of programs, services, and staff, and administration of budgets and personnel.
  • Supervisory responsibilities include: crisis intervention and suicide prevention; testing and assessment; and community referrals.
  • Develop strong collaborative efforts across campuses and departments in order to strengthen community responsibility for Student Wellness.  Some direct service to clients is expected.
  • Working at the St. John's University counseling Center requires the ability to conceptualize a broad range of clinical issues from a multi cultural perspective. Qualifications

  • Terminal degree in clinical or counseling psychology or related field is required.
  • Seven years of post-doctoral clinical and supervisory experience is required.
  • Must be licensed in appropriate field in New York, or license eligible, and licensed in appropriate field in New York within two years from start date.
  • Experience working in a college mental health setting given preference.
