Responsibilities 

  • Monitor performance and availability of campus infrastructures and WANs on a daily basis.  This includes switches, routers, firewalls, wireless access points, and other appliances such as traffic shaping devices.
  • Facilitate connection of workstations and servers to the network.  This might involve changes to the access lists, port configurations, patching, cabling and/or switch installations.
  • Investigate and resolve network related problems using a variety of diagnostic tools.
  • Analyze current and planned network usage, provide recommendations to management.
  • Manage and implement appropriate network and system monitoring tools.
  • Work with vendors and consultants for use of outside services.
  • Develop project plans for the implementations of new systems, upgrades or network equipment.
  • Implement plans in appropriate change windows with a minimum of outage or disruptions.
  • While the hours of this position are primarily the business hours of the University (Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m.- 4:30 p.m.), 24 x 7 availability may be required to respond to system emergencies or to implement off-hours changes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Technical degree preferred.
  • Experience operating large campus-wide LAN environments (preferably in a college or university) required.
  • Experience within a Windows NT and/or Sun Unix environment or equivalent required.
  • Experience with network monitoring and performance monitoring tools required.
  • Must have strong interpersonal and communicating skills.
  • Must possess a detailed understanding of Data Networking and Cisco switching, routing, and firewall equipment.
  • CCNA certification required; CCIE certification preferred.
  • A proven analytical abilities and a commitment to professional development required.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects required.

Salary commensurate with your qualifications, experience, and contingent upon the departmental budget.
