Job Description
Perform the day-to-day Oracle, Banner, Data Warehouse and Unix
systems support activities working under the supervision of the
Manager for Database and Unix Administration within Information
Technology. These activities include Banner Upgrades, daily
database and Unix systems administration, maintenance, monitoring,
documentation, and support services, including Operations, backup
and recovery, log file maintenance, student portal, distance
learning, printing and email.
Responsibilities
- Provide an adequate and responsive level of database and Unix
systems administration support.
- Assist the Database and Unix Analysts in evaluating, assessing,
proposing and implementing necessary hardware and software
installations as requested by the Manager of Database and Unix
Administration.
- Provide database and systems support services in the areas of
Operations, Applications, Development and Network Services as
instructed.
- Maintain an on-going knowledge and expertise in the database
and Unix administration function.
- Assist in troubleshooting and maintaining records and logs of
database and systems problems and provide actions and/or
recommendations to rectify real and potential problems.
- Ensuring that users of the Oracle/Banner/Data Warehouse/Unix
environment have problems and technical issues resolved in an
expedient manner.
- Develop and maintain documentation and standards for the
database and Unix environment.
- Proactively monitor all database and systems via Enterprise
Manager and logs on a daily basis and alert management to any
problems.
- Develop scripts and automate activities as required to perform
system-wide and repetitive task management.
- Perform hardware maintenance scheduling with vendors as
required.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field or
equivalent of five (5) years experience in Information Technology
required.
- One (1) to three (3) years experience in Oracle database
practices, skills and database administration concepts and Sun Unix
system administration support services in an end-user computing
environment is preferred.
- Ability to work hands-on and acquire and demonstrate new
skills.
- Effective communication and documentation skills required.
Salary
Salary commensurate with your qualifications, experience, and
contingent upon the departmental budget.
