Job Description
The Senior Specialist or Team Leader acts as a representative of Information Technology to a single college, school, or unit at the University.  The existing major groups are: St. John’s College, the Tobin College of Business (TCB), the College of Professional Studies, the School of Pharmacy, the Law School, the Library, the School of Education, Metropolitan College, the University’s administration, the Manhattan Campus (a branch of TCB), the Oakdale campus and the members of the residence village.  This individual, along with his/her technician colleagues, provides service and support to the constituents of the group he/she represents.  He/she proactively seeks to support the represented college, school, or unit by communicating frequently with the group’s appointed liaison to Information Technology.  To accomplish this, it is encouraged that the senior specialist learns the business of the college, school, or unit and to anticipate their needs to the greatest extent possible. The Senior Specialist must possess the technical knowledge and skill necessary to successfully troubleshoot advanced hardware and software problems. The Senior Specialist must be willing to work flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings and weekends if necessary.  It should be noted that the nature of the Senior Specialist position for the Manhattan Campus is unique in that it is one of elevated responsibility and autonomy.

Responsibilities

  • Provides world class service and quality support of desktop and multimedia technology to users of a single college, school, or unit.
  • Maintains multiple platform hardware and software on desktop computers.  Ensures that equipment is fully functional and users’ needs are met.
  • Implements and upholds University policy to facilitate an atmosphere conducive to learning and research.
  • Ensures that computing hardware and cabling are neat in appearance and orderly in operation.
  • Ensures that constituents are informed of relevant issues in a timely manner.
  • Assumes a lead role with the initial setup, maintenance, upgrade, and deployment of computing and multimedia hardware and, if applicable, its integration into the network.
  • Ensures that all computing and multimedia assets are properly secured.
  • Assists with software and OS setup, installs, updates and maintenance.
  • Stays abreast of latest technology used in an educational environment
  • Performs other miscellaneous duties as required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field OR five years specific technical experience.
  • Two years customer service experience.
  • Two years technical experience.
  • Excellent knowledge of the use of technology, with a focus on computer software / hardware in an educational environment.
  • Advanced troubleshooting ability.
  • The ability to maintain a diplomatic and professional attitude with students, faculty and staff.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skill.

Salary
Salary commensurate with your qualifications, experience, and contingent upon the departmental budget.
