Summary
Student Wellness seeks an energetic and dedicated individual to
promote a healthy community and nurture attitudes and behaviors
that encourages students to make informed decisions about their
health. The recently expanded program for Wellness Education
and Prevention Services is part of an integrated wellness area that
includes a student health center, counseling center and nutrition
services. The Department of Student Wellness is composed of a
multidisciplinary team of professionals including psychologists,
social workers, nurses, and consulting psychiatrists. The
successful candidate will demonstrate knowledge about the field,
show an intense passion for working with students, and exhibit
excellent presentation skills. The coordinator reports to the
Director for Wellness Education and Prevention Services within the
Department of Student Wellness.
Description
The program coordinator is responsible for helping to promote
student wellness and health education to students of the Staten
Island and Queens Campuses. This includes a variety of health
related issues including but not limited to alcohol, drug, tobacco,
sexual assault, eating disorders, relationships, and mental health.
The program coordinator will also:
- Research current health, mental health, and social issues and
resources
- Provide support with the design, implementation, and evaluation
of effective health education and wellness programs.
- Collaborate with other university departments and professionals
to ensure delivery of effective campus-wide health education
outreach programs
- Train and supervise student groups in health education programs
and services on campus
- Participate in relevant conferences, seminars, and give
presentations
- Additional duties as assigned by the Director of Wellness
Education and Prevention Services.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree required, preferably in Social Work, Health
Education, Community/Public Health or Counseling, or related
field
- Experience with a college student population strongly
preferred
- Program implementation and coordination, particularly in health
education preferred
- Knowledge of current health, mental health, and social issues
on university campuses
- Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Demonstrated knowledge, sensitivity, and ability to work with
students from diverse backgrounds
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and written and verbal
communication skills
