Move-In Day is the day when residential students from the
freshmen class move into their dorm rooms, meet their roommates and
become acclimated to living on a college campus - all before their
first day of classes, Wednesday, August 27. This year, over 1600
freshmen will be living in the six dormitories on the Queens
campus. “It’s amazing to see the University come together as a
whole to show support and welcome new students to St. John’s”
commented Rev.
Patrick Griffin, Executive Vice President for Mission and
Branch Campuses
While some students confessed they were nervous about starting
college, they also admitted they were looking forward to spending
the next four years at St. John’s , “I’m looking forward to a lot
of things - meeting new people, living away from home and joining
different groups and organizations” said future speech pathology
major Jillian Pelc. Among those there to help were counselors from
the University Freshman Center, “We are on hand to offer any advice
to students and make sure that they have everything they need to
begin a successful semester” said Charles Pizzo, Associate Director
of the Freshman Center.
Move-In Day also included tours of the entire Queens campus and
a barbeque, complete with fun games and activities, where students
could meet and get acquainted with one other.
The welcome to St. John’s does not end there, all students will
be officially welcomed as new members of the St. John’s family at
the New Student Convocation and Welcome Fair on Tuesday, August
26.
