Nature and Purpose of
Agency
MOMMAS is a home for young mother aged 17 to 21 years and
their babies. For approximately two years, the young mothers
at MOMMAS House continue education or vocational experience
interrupted by pregnancy. With guidance and direction, the
young mothers can learn to support themselves and their children
independently.
Tasks available for
students
Volunteers are needed for many areas of work including:
Day Care / Babysitting, Tutoring and teaching skills, picking up /
transporting / sorting donations of food, furniture, etc. ,
Fundraising, Clerical work in the office, holding a collection
drive for needed supplies (i.e. Paper goods). There are
currently four group residences open, both located in Nassau
County. MOMMAS House also needs assistance with food, clothing
and toy drives. Any students interested in organizing a drive
would be greatly appreciated.
Locations in: Glen Cove, Hempstead, Jericho and
Massapequa.
*All volunteers must attend a volunteer orientation
prior to beginning volunteer work.
Time Requirements
Flexible – Monday through Friday. Very little
weekends available unless organized in advance with
Joan. Students completing between 10 – 20 hours or less will
be asked to work on full day projects or assist with house
dinners. Students with more hours can be assigned to work
directly with children or mothers.

Instructions
Please email Joan to register. A picture I.D. is
needed at time of orientation (license or school I.D. is
acceptable). Students must remember to sign in and out
at houses. No other way to verify and track hours. If you
do not REMEMBER to sign in and out, time-logs and future requests
will not be signed or met.

Bus from Bell Blvd station heading to Hicksville. Get off at
Hicksville LIRR. Start out going South on RT-106 (Newbridge RD)
towards W Barclays ST. Take the N74 Bus from Hicksville LIRR
Station heading to Wantagh. Get off at Park Ave. Start out going
North on Wantagh Ave. Arrive at 1857 Wantagh Ave.
Driving
Start out going south on Utopia Pky toward 80th Rd.
Utopia Pky becomes Homelawn St. Turn left onto Grand Central Pky E.
Merge onto Grand Central Pky R toward Eastern L I. Grand Central
Pky E becomes Northern Pky E. Merge onto Wantagh State Pky/Wantagh
Pky S via Exit 33 toward Jones Beach. Merge onto RT-27 E/Sunrise
Hwy via Exit W5 toward Montauk. Turn left onto Wantagh Ave. 1857
