The St. John’s College Bound: Liberty Partnerships Program is a State Funded program that has been serving middle school and high school students since its inception in 1989.  The program is designed to provide support and services to middle school and high school students who are identified as having the potential to pursue a college education, but need assistance to finish secondary school.

The St. John’s College Bound: Liberty Partnerships Program currently has a partnership with Elizabeth Blackwell MS 210, John Adams High School, Moore Catholic High School, New Dorp High School, Richmond Hill High School and the Springfield Gardens Educational Complex.

Tasks Available for Students

Tutoring
Personalized tutoring can make a significant difference in a student’s comprehension of academic material which results in students achieving better grades.
Tutoring is provided (at St. John’s University) on Saturdays and on weekdays by appointment.

Counseling
One of the goals of the program is to motivate and support students, so they will finish school and be prepared to pursue endeavors in post-secondary education and the workforce.  Counseling is available to all College Bound: Liberty Partnerships Program students and parents.  Through the counseling process, a personal assessment is developed and necessary services are provided or recommended.  Students and parents also have the opportunity to attend group rap-sessions led by counselors.

Mentoring/Peer Counseling
The mentor/peer counselors are selected University students and volunteers who have been trained to assist the College Bound: Liberty Partnerships Program students with their journey through high school and on to college.  The mentor/peer counselors stay in contact with the students to advise them of program activities, share information and to listen.  They serve as positive role models and are proof that the college experience is attainable.
