Nature and Purpose of Agency
The Alley Pond Environmental Center (APEC), a nonprofit environmental education organization, is dedicated to educating children and adults in the New York metropolitan area, protecting and preserving Alley Pond Park, open spaces and water bodies, and advocating for sustainable environmental policies and practices.  We are recognized as a National Environmental Study Area by the U.S. National Park Service for our excellence in educational programming.

Task Available for Students
Participation in Programs/Class Visits

  • Early childhood: Assistance with Pre-K programs is especially needed.
  • Elementary, high school and middle school programs and class visits
  • Assist teacher with field course for high school students (Spring 2010)

Outdoor Work

  • Trail maintenance
  • Removal of invasive plant species

APEC on-site program schedule for Oct-Dec 2009 is available in APEC folder in AS-L office.
   
Time Requirements
A minimum of 25 hours per semester. 
Monday – Saturday,  9:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Student Awareness/Special Instructions
Working with live animals and walking on nature trails or doing outdoor work. Please dress appropriately (neat, casual attire)

By Car
GCP to Cross Island North. Take to Northern Blvd. East exit and proceed less than 1/8 mile to the APEC building on your right. Free on-site parking available.
