Nature and Purpose of Agency
Kings Harbor Multicare Center provides long-term and
short-term skilled nursing care for more than 700 residents. Kings
Harbor is located in the Pelham Gardens neighborhood of Northeast
Bronx, easily accessible to major highways and near public
transportation. A three-building campus facility with surrounding
gardens ensures that residents with similar capabilities are
grouped together.
Tasks Available for Students
Elder Care
• Participate in recreational games and
activities, such as the weekly international club (where residents
select a nationality and research about the heritage.)
• Assist in moving residents to various
locations, such as the local in-house beauty salon.
• Organize your own workshops with
residents
Psychology or Social Work Assistance
• There are many residents suffering from the
affects of Alzheimer’s Disease or Dementia. Can assist in
various ways.
• Assist and work alongside the resident social
worker.
Time Requirements
Monday through Friday with potential for weekends. (Can
inquire about weekend events). Morning programs begin at 10am
– 11am, followed by lunch. Afternoon programs take place
between 2pm-3pm.
Student Awareness/Special Instructions
Students completing more then six hours must complete an
application on file with the Office of Academic
Service-Learning.
PPDS are required within six months. Medical records are
required.
Volunteers will receive on-site training. Students must be
informed that there is to be NO
FOOD and NO FLUIDSgiven to any
resident at any time. Also, if students are not sure of any
situation at anytime during the visit to reach out to the nurse or
administrator at the home.

toll). Merge onto I-695 N/Throgs Neck Expy via Exit 10 toward
New Haven/I-95 N. I-695 N/Throgs Neck Expy becomes I-95
N. Take the Gun Hill RD exit, Exit 10, on the Left. Turn Left
onto E Gun Hill RD. 2000 E Gun Hill RD is on the right.

Public Transportion
Take the Q46 Bus from Union Tpke and Utopia Pky station heading to
Kew Gardens. Get off at Union Tpke and Parsons
Blvd. Start out going West on Parsons Blvd towards
Union Tpke. Take the Q25L Bus from Union Tpk station heading
to College Point. Get off at 31 Rd. Take the QBx1 bus
from 31 Rd station heading to Pelham Bay / Co-op City. Get
off at Aldrich St (14 min walk)
