Nature and Purpose of Agency
Since 1968, the Jewish Association for Services for the Aged (JASA) and its affiliates--a beneficiary of the UJA-Federation of New York--with its 3,000 staff and volunteers, have provided social, recreational, health, cultural and educational programs for older persons, regardless of their race, religion or ethnicity to help sustain them in their homes and communities and to offer opportunities for a better quality of life.

These services are available in Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn, the Bronx, Nassau and Suffolk Counties.

Tasks Available for Students
There are numerous opportunities, with a wide range of services including advocacy, case management, legal services, Meals on wheels, respite care and senior center services. There are ONE-on-ONE programs available; Friendly Visiting, PETS Project (help an elder care for his/her beloved pet. Opportunities range from walking the pet or cleaning a litter box on a weekly basis to escorting the elder and pet to the vet.), PAWS & Reflect (take puppies to visit with elders on the weekends), Lead a Class/Lecture or Group Activity at a senior center, Conduct an activity with an Alzheimer’s/Dementia Program and many other opportunities.
