Nature and Purpose of
Agency
The Briarwood Family Residence is a temporary housing shelter for
over 90 homeless families. One of the goals of Briarwood is to
provide a pleasant, safe and well-maintained environment that
encourages families to use the available social-service programs. A
highly skilled professional social-service staff conducts
comprehensive family-needs assessments. Programs are offered for
parenting, budgeting, education and job training. Recovery services
for drug and alcohol abuse and domestic violence are available.
Tasks Available for
Students
The educational needs of youngsters at Briarwood are addressed
through a pre-school child-care center. Childcare assistance is
needed for children birth through 4 and ½ years of age. An
afterschool tutoring and mentoring program is available as well as
special variety programs such as Bed Time Stories every other
Tuesday and Thursday evenings throughout the month.

- Childcare Assistance:
8:00am – 10:00am Monday through Friday
10:00am – 12:00pm Monday through Friday
2:00pm – 4:00pm Monday through Friday
4:00pm – 6:00pm Monday through Friday
- After School Assistance:
2:30pm – 4:30pm Monday through Friday
(Note: 2 students my serve per shift)
- Recreation:
4:30pm – 7:00pm Monday through Thursday
3:00pm – 6:00pm Fridays

Turnpike (Kew Gardens). Look for a sign for court building and walk
up three blocks on path (behind statue).
Driving Directions
Start out going NORTH on UTOPIA PKWY toward UNION TURNPIKE. Turn
LEFT onto UNION TURNPIKE. Turn LEFT onto MAIN ST. Turn RIGHT onto
82ND DR. Turn LEFT onto 135TH ST. Turn RIGHT onto 83RD AVE. 83RD
AVE becomes 134TH ST. 8020 134TH ST.
