“This is wild,” one student said as she sat on the Great Lawn
with her laptop computer. “I can connect to the network from
anywhere on campus. It’s really nice to sit outside and do your
school work between classes.”
“When it comes to technology, St. John’s is second to none,”
says Joseph J. Tufano, Chief Information Officer at the University.
“Thanks to our partnership with IBM and other technology companies,
St. John’s is able to give our students a truly high-tech academic
experience.”
This year as last, IT staff are assisting students with problems
by setting up “help booths” at four locations across campus during
the first two weeks of the semester. As always, students also can
bring their laptops to the “Laptop Shop” in Sullivan Hall.
The “Laptop Program” reflects St. John’s University’s ongoing
commitment to technology - a commitment that has won wide
recognition. St. John’s is the only New York-area university ranked
in Intel’s Top-Ten “Most Unwired
Colleges.” Recently, IBM named St. John’s among its “Heroes of
Technology.”
