With more than 250,000 new cases of breast cancer expected to be
diagnosed in the United States in 2010, the eradication of this
deadly disease has long been a priority at St. John's
University.
Following the urging of St. Vincent de Paul to reach out to
those in need, alumni, students, faculty and friends of St. John's
gathered on Sunday, October 17, 2010 on the Queens and Staten
Island campuses for the annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer
Walk. Designed to raise much needed revenue to support breast
cancer research and treatment, the event has become a popular
opportunity for members of the St. John’s community to put their
Vincentian values in action in a practical and highly visible
way.
"At St. John's we've always been about doing what we can
to make a difference for people," noted Victor Ramos '91CBA,
'93MBA, Associate Vice President, Institutional Advancement.
"Coming together to raise funds to help fight breast cancer is a
great way to impact the lives of the current and future victims of
this terrible illness."
