High school seniors, their parents and St. John’s University
alumni in the Houston area met with representatives of the
University’s Offices of Admissions, Financial Aid and Alumni
Relations at an enrollment reception on Tuesday, April 7, 2009 at
the Marriott Houston West Loop. These students, who have been
accepted to the University for fall 2009 and are still in the
process of making their college decisions, were given first-hand
accounts by current students and alumni about the value of a St.
John’s education.

Student speaker Elizabeth Gray '09C discussed her positive
experience as a Biology student and shared her plans for a graduate
degree in Toxicology immediately following graduation in the
spring. She advised students to take advantage of the many
opportunities for involvement both in and outside of the classroom
at St. John’s, emphasizing their importance towards personal
growth.
Alumni speakers Matt Mussalli '92C, '95L and Jim DeNike '53C
also shared their student experiences and the impact their
education had on their lives. Mussalli told students about
participation in Campus Ministry during his college days which
fostered principles that he still incorporates into his life and
career.
DeNike shared the value of his education which he says was just
as competitive, if not better, than his peers who attended
Princeton University and other well-known schools. He also
emphasized the strength of the alumni network locally through the
Houston Alumni Chapter, with which he is actively involved.
Attendees learned that the benefits of attending St. John’s
outlasts the four or so years that it takes to earn an
undergraduate degree, between the character building and alumni
activities, they last a lifetime.
