New Students Prepare for School

September 03, 2009

Despite dark, rainy weather, bright-eyed first year students and their families made their way to St. John’s University’s Queens campus on Saturday, August 29, 2009 for Move-In Day. With boxes and shopping carts in tow, the group was welcomed by representatives from the Office of Residence Life, Office of Alumni Relations and student services groups as they moved into Residence Village.

In addition to talking with students and parents, Alumni Relations staff members distributed “must-have” St. John’s alumni branded pillow cases and information about how students can get involved while at the University. Nine alumni also stopped by the Alumni Relations tent in Montgoris Courtyard to update their contact information and reconnect with alma mater.

New students were impressed with the service they received during Move-In Day and a subsequent shopping day where they received a discount on any supplies they still needed for their dorm rooms.

"Move-in Day has gone very well,” said Peter Cybulski '13C. “It's been great to have so many helpers around. My dorm room is very nice and clean, and I'm looking forward to the start of the school year."

Philip Halikias '13C agreed, saying, "Things have been very organized, and there have been many carts around to help us move things back and forth. I'm ready for the start of school."
