Young Alumni Celebrate Mardi Gras in St. John's Style

February 24, 2010

On Thursday, February 18, 2010 recent graduates and friends of St. John's University gathered at Tonic East for Mardi Gras Madness, the most recent event in the popular Young Alumni Happy Hour series. The trendy East Side setting was particularly appropriate, since it was the site of the first such gathering in March, 2009.

Guests enjoyed a Mardi Gras themed celebration on a private floor complete with decorations reminiscent of the traditional festivities long associated with the Big Easy, including an extensive variety of beads and other Mardi Gras style giveaways. Many attendees who have enjoyed similar events in the past were joined by a number of alumni participating for the first time.

"This was a great event and I really appreciate everyone coming out," said Salvatore J. Sama '03TCB, '05MBA. "I owe St. John's a lot. The University really helped me get to where I am in my career; and the school and alumni have been very supportive. Networking at events like this is very important and we're expecting to bring out more of the people we graduated with next month."

"As an SRM graduate, St. John's has been a great asset," agreed Justin Mark '04TCB. "Being able to get together with other alumni at events like this has been a really wonderful experience."

Elisa Douglas '05C, Assistant Director, Student and Young Alumni Engagement, Office of Alumni Relations was pleased with the way the Young Alumni Happy Hours have become increasingly popular since their inception less than a year ago.  "These events are a fun way to bring together recent graduates with their friends and alma mater," she said. "Each month's gathering is a new experience in a new atmosphere. I'm looking forward to next month's Spring Mixer at Rosie O'Grady's, which marks the one-year anniversary of this series."

The Spring Mixer will be held on Thursday, March 25, 2010 at Rosie O'Grady's Saloon in the Theatre District of Manhattan.
