On Saturday, February 27, 2010 alumni and friends gathered at
Stout NYC for a unique morning pre-game reception prior to heading
into Madison Square Garden for the Red Storm men's basketball game
against BIG EAST rival the University of Pittsburgh Panthers.
The event was co-hosted by the Young Alumni Committee, the Black
Alumni Association and the Office of Alumni Relations.

Guests enjoyed an extensive brunch at a venue familiar to many
Red Storm fans who have attended past pre-game receptions, usually
prior to an evening game at the Garden, St. John's basketball's
second home. As usual, Stout provided the ambience to
complement the excitement that always precedes a Red Storm game. A
number of alumni showed their Red Storm pride by dressing in the
traditional St. John's colors of red and white, earning them a
complimentary ticket to participate in the traditional raffle of
unique sports and other University memorabilia.

For many recent graduates, this was the first time that they
were able to attend a pre-game reception, and they expressed the
enthusiasm and spirit that has always characterized these popular
events.
Currently Residence Director at the University's Paris campus,
Derek Hoy '08TCB took advantage of his brief return to New
York to enjoy a day with his fellow alumni. "I'm only in town
for five days," he said, "and it was great to be able to come out
to an event like this and reconnect with friends and alma
mater. I was glad to see such a good turnout of young alumni,
especially those who graduated within the past few years.
It's also nice to know that whether I'm here or in Paris, I'm part
of the global St. John's family."

Many alumni enjoyed the chance to combine socializing and
networking with a premier St. John's athletic event. "These
brunch receptions are a great way to lead off these early games,"
noted Michael R. Bart '85CBA. "You really get the energy and
St. John's spirit before even heading into the arena. This
[Stout] is a great location, too…it's a great place."
"It's good to be able to get together with other alumni in a nice
setting," agreed Alan S. Friedman '83SVC. "I was really
looking forward to the game and enjoyed showing my Red Storm
pride."
