April 06, 2010

On Thursday, March 25, 2010 over 150 alumni and students joined representatives from 20 schools and school districts to participate in the annual Education Job Fair on the Queens campus. The event was co-sponsored by St. John's The School of Education, the Career Center and the Office of Alumni Relations.

This popular networking event offered attendees a venue to interact with school and school district representatives to discuss the availability of professional positions within their organizations, both currently and in the immediate future. It was also beneficial to participating representatives by allowing them to become acquainted with individuals who were committed to making a positive impact on the field of education.

Job seekers were grateful for the chance to gather specific information that will hopefully assist them as they make viable career plans. "St John's shows that they care about their students and alumni," said Josephine DiGangi '04CPS, '10GEd.. "This job fair offered many opportunities in all areas of education."

Senior Kristen Renart agreed, noting that she "…felt the job fair was a great opportunity to network with potential employers. St John's provides many opportunities to meet and network with those in the field of education through job fairs, workshops and other means of professional development. I really appreciate that."

Students and alumni interacted and networked with each other as they went from table-to-table for detailed discussions with school representatives. For some alumni, particularly those impacted by the current economic downturn, this event served as the first step in a possible change to a more satisfying and stable career.

"After graduating in 2005 with an undergraduate degree in Finance, I decided to change professions after working in business," said Ayse Zorali '05TCB. "I'm so excited to have an opportunity to participate in this fair and possibly have a career in education."
