Alumnae Wellness Takes Center Stage

March 14, 2011

Health and wellness often take a backseat to the hustle and bustle of daily life. To remedy this, the Office of Alumni Relations, the St. John’s University Alumnae Association and the Department of Student Wellness hosted a Women and Wellness event this past weekend, providing alumnae with tips and pointers on how to lead stress-free and healthy lives.

The event featured six workshops, each covering a different aspect of wellness. Topics included yoga, meditation, healthy eating, aromatherapy and more.

Alumnae found the workshops helpful and were excited to integrate the new tips into their everyday lives.

“I was most excited to learn about meditation,” said Carline Dalton ’99C. “That’s something I’ve always wanted to try, but it’s been difficult for me to put into practice. Now I’m looking forward to using the meditation pointers I learned today on a regular basis.”

Marie Cosentino Lococo ’70Ed enjoyed the dietary workshop and found it to be informative and practical.

“It was filled with very important pointers,” she said. “I’ve got to make sure I take vitamin D and remember to steer clear of sugar. We should even avoid sugar substitutes, like Equal or Splenda. It’s just so important to monitor everything that we eat.”
