March 18, 2010

In a season filled with milestones, St. John’s
women’s basketball team has added another, earning an at-large
bid to the 2010 NCAA
Tournament, AKA “the Big Dance” or “March Madness.” The
sixth-seeded team will face Ivy League champion and No. 11 seed
Princeton on Saturday, March 20, in Tallahassee, FL, a game to be
televised on ESPN2 at 12:21 p.m.
This is the
fifth appearance in the NCAA Tournament for the women’s team and
Coach
Kim Barnes-Arico’s second since coming to St. John’s. Their
last appearance was during 2005-06, the first NCAA Tournament
appearance in almost 20 years. “We worked extremely hard to get
where we are, and we look forward to bringing that intensity to the
Big Dance,” said Coach Barnes-Arico.
The St. John’s community will give the women’s team a rousing
send-off on March 18 as they board the bus for their date with
destiny. Win or lose, St. John’s is proud to call the team our
own.
