Labor and Employment Law Center and Carey Center to Host Conference in Cambridge, England

July 12, 2011

On July 20-22, 2011, the Center for Labor and Employment Law and The Hugh L. Carey Center for Dispute Resolution at St. John’s School of Law will host a conference at Fitzwilliam College, University of Cambridge titled: Worlds of Work: Employment Dispute Resolution Systems Across the Globe. The conference builds on two prior international conferences presented by the Law School:

  • Transnational Perspectives in ADR (London 2006)
  • Transnational Perspectives in Labor Law (Dublin 2000)

Worlds of Work integrates these past conference themes to explore the increasingly important topic of international employment dispute resolution. Bringing together a world-class group of scholars and practitioners from the fields of labor law and ADR, the conference will provide a forum for the exchange of ideas on a range of topics, including differences among countries in the handling of workplace disputes, employment discrimination law in a transnational context, the cultural, religious, and ethical dimensions of workplace conflict and much more. The papers generated by the conference will be published in a dedicated issue of the St. John’s Law Review, providing a durable record of the conference work product.

“The timely conference themes reflect St. John’s social justice mission and global focus, and the conference’s engaging agenda evinces the positive synergy of the Law School’s academic centers,” said Dean Michael A. Simons. “The Carey Center, led by Paul F. Kirgis and Elayne E. Greenberg, is a national and international innovator in the study of dispute resolution, while the Center for Labor and Employment Law, led by David L. Gregory, continues to cement St. John’s status as a leader in the study of workplace legal issues.”

Worlds of Work is presented in partnership with the New York University School of Law Center for Labor and Employment Law, the Cornell University ILR School Labor and Employment Law Program and the American Arbitration Association. For more information, please visit the conference website.
