Law School Names 2012 Scholars for Excellence in Labor and Employment Law

David L. Gregory, the Law School’s Dorothy Day Professor of Law and the Executive Director of the Center for Labor and Employment Law, is pleased to announce the following 2012 scholarship awards for excellence in labor and employment law:

Alyssa Zuckerman ’13 is the Coca Cola Refreshments Scholar for Excellence in Labor and Employment Law. Through the leadership of Steve Johnson ’00 and Michael R. Van Aken ’99, this $20,000 scholarship is coupled with compensated summer employment with the corporate labor and human resources functions of Coca-Cola Refreshments.

Krystyna Baumgartner ’13 is the Robert J. Nobile ’84 Scholar for Excellence in Labor and Employment Law. This scholarship was underwritten by Diane Pfadenhauer ’96, a primary protégé of Mr. Nobile.

Michael Harary ’13 is the Anthony L. Pedretti Scholar for Excellence in Labor and Employment Law. Mark G. Pedretti ’92, a New York based partner at Reed Smith, inaugurated this scholarship in honor of his father.

Ian Hayes ’13 is the Monsignor Thomas J. Darby Scholar for Excellence in Labor and Employment Law. This scholarship was made possible by the generosity of Mr. James M. Darby ’84, an honors graduate of the University of Scranton and of St. John’s School of Law, and the nephew of Monsignor Darby.

Amanda Jaret ’13 is the Professor Lawrence M. Joseph Scholar for Excellence in Labor and Employment Law. This scholarship is underwritten by John Longmire ’95, a partner at Willkie Farr.

Thomas Keane ’13 is the Louis E. O’Neil Scholar for Excellence in Labor and Employment Law. Terry O’Neil ’70, a partner at Bond Schoeneck and King, inaugurated this scholarship in honor of his father.

In the coming months, the law school will select recipients for the following scholarships:

The Dorothy Day Memorial Scholarship for Excellence in Labor and Employment Law, underwritten by Robert J. Nobile ’84 since 1997, will be awarded to an entering first-year student who has demonstrated excellence in labor and employment study.

The Jackson Lewis Scholarship for Excellence in Labor and Employment Law in Memory of Allan C. Becker, will be awarded in September to a second-year law student.

The Center for Labor and Employment Law at St. John’s School of Law is a forum where students, practitioners and scholars come together to explore the practice and theory of labor and employment law.
