NYC Department of Health and
Mental Hygiene & Office of Emergency Management Will
St. John’s University will host the “H1N1 Preparedness for
Colleges and Universities Conference” on Friday, September
18 in the Saval Auditorium at the University’s Manhattan
campus (101 Murray Street). The conference will be a half-day
session from 9:00 a.m. to Noon.

New York City Office of Emergency Management (OEM) Commissioner,
Joseph F. Bruno, will deliver the opening address
and Dr. Scott A. Harper, Medical Specialist,
Bureau of Communicable Disease, NYC Department of Heath and Mental
Hygiene and Dr. Isaac B. Weisfuse, Deputy
Commissioner, Division of Disease Control, NYC Department of Health
and Mental Hygiene, will follow as featured guest
speakers. Additional presenters include:
- Lucia V. Torian, Ph.D., Deputy Director – HIV Epidemiology
& Field Service Program, NYC Dept. of Health and Mental
- Ira Tannenbaum, Manager – Public/Private Initiatives,
NYC Office of Emergency Management
- Amber Greene, Manager – Ready New York Program, NYC
Office of Emergency Management
- Kathryn Hutchinson, Ph.D., Executive Director – Student
Wellness,St. John’s University
- Dominic Petruzzelli, Director of Residence Life, St.
Over 100 representatives from tri-state area colleges and
universities are scheduled to attend this informative
conference. The H1N1 Preparedness for Colleges and
Universities comes on the heels of St. John’s first two Emergency
forums, the Urban Hazards Forum IV: Campus School Safety and
Emergency Preparedness, held in 2008 and the Study Abroad and
Emergency Preparedness Conference, held in March, 2009.
