Cuban novelist Josefina Leyva, is the featured guest
to be interviewed by Dr. Marie-Lise Gazarian, Director of the
Graduate Program in Spanish at St. John’s University. The interview
will focus on El mundo ficcional de Josefina Leyva, a
compilation by Bertha Bilbao Richter of articles on the author.
Josefina Leyva was born in Cuba and studied at
the University of Havana where she taught French literature. She is
the author of twelve novels, one biography and one book of
In February 2012 Leyva’s novel La dama de
la libertad received the first prize from the X Festival
Hispano del Libro in Houston, Texas. She currently lives in
the United States.
There will be a musical interlude with dances
performed by Ninah Beliavsky and Anton Gazanbeek, accompanied at
the guitar by Michaella Twersky, who will also sing. Ever Uriel
will present a selection of songs.
The event begins at 6 p.m. at Marillac Terrace,
on St. John’s University’s Queens Campus.
