Mission

The staff at the Counseling and Testing Center is concerned with the general welfare and emotional adjustment of St. John's University students. This office is dedicated to assisting students in their educational and vocational pursuits as well as with their personal and social concerns.

The Center is staffed by psychologists who have been educated to work with college-age students. Through the use of specific counseling techniques, the Center measures interests and abilities, goals and personality to provide students with information needed for self-understanding and success. Since the counseling services are totally voluntary, the staff can only help those students willing to take advantage of these services.

Students interested in continuing their education beyond the baccalaureate level will also find the Counseling and Testing Center a useful resource in planning their future.

The Center is also available to assist students with personal problems. Counselors, who can remain objective, may help students in understanding, resolving, and profiting from problem situations. For students who are having difficulty in academic pursuits, the Center can lend assistance in the enhancement of study and reading skills and can play an important role in providing individual guidance to student as they choose a major.
