FreeRice Donation Contest
November 2009
What could be better than getting a quick break from studying
and at the same time feeding the hungry – all while never moving
from your computer? Answer: Nothing! FreeRice.com is a great
website that tests your vocab knowledge with a humanitarian goal.
For each answer you get right, FreeRice will donate 10 grains of
rice to the United Nations World Food Program. This fall, students
are invited to play FreeRice and keep track of their score. The
student with the largest rice donation will receive a prize from
the Department of Student Wellness. Look for more details in
November!

the fun of spring break while learning to make positive choices for
your own health and the safety of your friends. Students and

Turn Off the Violence Week
April 12 – April 16, 2010
One in four women will experience some kind of sexual assault
during her time at college. 42% of women raped never report
the incident. Turn Off the Violence Week allows for healing,
education and awareness of violence and how the St. John’s
community can work together to prevent it. The week is packed
with programs that are interactive, educational, inspiring, and
meaningful. There will be faculty lectures, a guest speaker,
and a movie night, to name just a few of the activities that are
planned.
The Clothesline Project
April 12 – April 16, 2010
As part of Turn Off the Violence Week, St. John’s participates in
the Clothesline Project, a public display that brings attention to
the issue of violence against others. During the week, a
clothesline is hung on the Great Lawn with t-shirts. Each shirt is
decorated to represent a particular victim’s experience and have it
acknowledged in a public space.
Relay for Life
Spring 2010
The American Cancer Society Relay for Life is the University’s
