Nassau County Alumni Share Red Storm Spirit

January 26, 2010

On Wednesday, January 20, 2010 nearly 35 alumni and friends gathered at the Walk Street Tavern on Long Island to share good times with old friends while watching the   St. John's University men's basketball team challenge traditional BIG EAST rival UConn on TV.

Sponsored by the Nassau County Alumni Chapter, this popular event gave Red Storm fans an opportunity to enjoy the game in a festive atmosphere where good food, drinks and lively conversation were the order of the evening.  For many alumni, the social aspect of the gathering was almost as important as the game itself.

"It's always a good time to see old friends and meet new alumni at these types of events," said Kevin Hawkins '86SVC.  "Watching and supporting the men's basketball team and reconnecting with old friends made this a very good evening."

Mark Ventimiglia '81CBA, '83MBA, President, Tobin College of Business Alumni Association (TCBAA) agreed that getting together with other alumni from the Long Island area always guarantees a good time, and the ability to watch a Red Storm away game while staying close to home made the evening extra special.  "It was great cheering for the basketball team with the Nassau County Alumni Chapter," he noted happily.

Future Nassau County Alumni Chapter events include a gathering on Tuesday, February 2, 2010 at Jameson's in Floral Park to watch the Red Storm take on the Scarlet Knights of Rutgers University.  Joining the alumni and guests will be Hall of Fame Basketball Coach Lou Carnesecca '50C, '60GEd, '00HON and former St. John's players Chris Mullin '98CBA, Felipe Lopez '98SVC and Walter Berry.  The chapter is also planning to hold its annual brunch on Sunday, July 18, 2010 at Belmont Park in Elmont, Long Island.
